Brazil Wins Bronze Medal

E-mail Print

SHANGHAI, China - Jo scored two goals and Diego added a third as Brazil beat Belgium 3-0 on Friday to win the bronze medal in men's soccer.

Diego opened the scoring in the 27th when he darted in front of defender Tom de Mul and knocked a cross from Rafinha past Belgium keeper Logan Bailly and inside the far post.

Jo added the second just before halftime, heading in a deflection after Bailly blocked a blast from Ramires from 10 meters out. The lanky striker then added an injury-time goal to finish off the scoring.

Led by two-time FIFA player of the year Ronaldinho, Brazil arrived in China on a quest to win its first Olympic gold medal in soccer, but lost to rival Argentina in the semifinals.

Instead Brazil picks up its second bronze medal, twelve years after its third-place finish at the Atlanta Games.
