Inter Milan are preparing a bid for Euro 2008 star Yuri Zhirkov, according to the Corriere dello Sport. Zhirkov has been one of the uncovered gems of this summer’s European Championships, helping an outstanding Russia side make it all the way to the semi finals.
The 25-year-old plays for CSKA Moscow, and he has really caught the eye at left full back with his pace and skill going forward. The player’s versatility is said to impress Jose Mourinho, as he can play at full back, left midfield, or even as a winger.
The Corriere says that Inter, who are currently in negotiations to sign Roma’s Amantino Mancini and Porto’s Ricardo Quaresma, are now considering making a move for Zhirkov. However, the Russian would not come cheap following his exploits in Austria and Switzerland. CSKA is likely to desire a transfer fee of at least €15m, which could ward off Inter.

Futbolicious.com Analysis:
Does this mean that there will be no more room for Brazilian left back, Maxwell? It could happen easily. Jose Mourinho sidelined excellent left back, Wayne Bridge while coaching Chelsea. Zhirkov is a phenomenal player, but so is Maxwell. I don't see a reason to buy another left back/midfielder as Inter really needs good central defenders due to the fact that Samuel and Materazzi are getting old. Mourinho also announced last week that if Dejan Stankovic does not find a new club over the summer that he will be training with the youth squad. How good is this for team's atmosphere? Mourinho is known for his dictatorship style of coaching and Italians are hard to get authority of, therefore it will be really interesting to see how Mourinho's career works out in Italy.
