Hitman Kezman is spot on for PSG Print E-mail
Monday, 15 September 2008 02:40

PARIS, September 14 (Ligue 1) - Elie Baup tasted defeat in his first match as Nantes coach as Mateja Kezman's early penalty earned Paris St Germain a win that lifts them up to third in Ligue 1.

Kezman, an August recruit from Fenerbahce, opened his account for PSG when he slammed home a seventh-minute spot-kick that proved to be the game's only goal.

The capital club just about deserved their victory, the third in their last four matches, which propels them six places up the table.

Nantes, who appointed Baup as a replacement for the sacked Michel Der Zakarian before the break for international fixtures, remain anchored to the foot of the standings after five games.

Michael Essien Injury Blow Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 September 2008 05:13

Chelsea look set to be without Michael Essien for the rest of the year after it was confirmed the midfielder would need surgery on a knee injury.

The 25-year-old suffered the problem while on international duty and was stretched off in the game between Ghana and Libya on Friday night.

He had missed the start of Chelsea's Premier League season because of injury and had only recovered last week.

A club statement read: "Michael has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will undergo an operation as soon as the majority of the swelling has subsided. We expect this to happen in a week's time.
